Exhibition Classification

Some more recent members who are considering showing, and have some of the newer mutations may be a little confused as to which is the correct class to enter their birds at shows. The following is a guideline as to selecting the correct class, if any doubt, contact a Society official for help. Although classes 1 – 12 (Champion Adults) are illustrated below, the same applies to classes 13 – 24 (Champion Breeders), classes 25 – 36 (Novice Adults) and classes 37 – 48 (Novice Breeders)

The following rules, as defined by the committee, apply only to recognised colours for which a colour standard has been written, and do not include any Non Standard Varieties (i.e. mutations for which there is yet no written standard), no matter what other combination of mutations they may display. The Committee has in effect organised all the recognised mutations in an order of priority, in order to determine the class that combinations of mutations must be exhibited in.

The list is shown below starting with the highest priority mutation at the top, and then working down. Therefore if you hve a pair of Blackcheeked Fawn Pieds, if you look down the list, the first of the three mutations you come to is Blackcheeked, and so this pair goesin the Blacheeked class (Class 10). If you consider a Blackbreasted Isabel (Phaoeo) looking down the list Blackbreasted comes first and therefore this pair goes in the Blackbreasted class (Class 11). Likewise if you consider Silver Lightbacks, Lightback comes first, and therefore they go in the Lightback class (Class).
